Fun run in the sun

Low key fun race, less stressy than a big field marathon. Ok so you share the canal towpath with others so there’s a bit of weaving at times, but this is the nature of the route (not unlike how you’d share paths with others at park runs). Nice atmosphere at start and good camaraderie on course (which helps, especially if your race isn’t going well haha). Basic refreshments on course as indicated, were fine. Thanks for a good day!

A lovely event

I would have small bottles of water rather than paper cups so runners can take them with them.

Hi, we moved away from plastic quite a few years ago, we do ask alll runners to bring cups if they so wish to do so.

Very enjoyable run

Not a fan of the medals if I'm honest. But hey it's a great spot for a run and loved the food & drink at the end. I'll be back

Great First Marathon

Me and my friend ran our first marathon. Great event! The organisers were great and we had a team morale passing all the other marathon runners along the canal. There was plenty of water and sweets and the turnaround points and lovely sunny day too!!

Had a huge support crew at the start/ finish which made it an amazing atmosphere and the most special day.

Few pointers that would maybe help:
- Signs along the route stating to the public there is a race on as was quite hard to run past dogs/ people at the end of the race.
- one portaloo at each end if possible

Nice and flat and plenty of treats!

I've done two races with Grim so far, one only had about 35 people and the other one had about 200!! So very different atmospheres as you can imagine. The staff are lovely and there was plenty of treats on the way as well as cakes and even hot dogs at the end (vegetarian and gluten free available)

A little lacking

I was surprised at the lack of Marshalls, signage of miles and water stations to be honest. The Marshalls themselves were Wonderfully friendly. Also, slightly disappointed the medals didn't have a number on to indicate the distance, sadly.

Hi, we had a water station every 3 miles, am not sure where else we could add water stations, if you have any suggestions please let us know.

Quiet race

My first half marathon. Lovely scenery. It was a busy towpath and maybe good to put signs out to say what’s happening. Not a huge number of people running so didn’t get the race feel and very quiet at finish line. Lots of goodies at the end.
Would have like medal to say distance run.
Thanks for organising.

good event

More signage on route, try to make canal users aware event running on shared canal path. Lots of dogs off leashes running across pathways.

Excellent supply of goodies at the end of the race.

Captivating canal canter

Absolutely Beautiful scenery
An eclectic mix of folk all giving it some seriously grim welly
Delightful route
Great toilets at start and finish
Awesome treats and medals at the finish line

-

Could do with a proper sign at each turn around point

Could do with a more official finish line as the end was a little confusing

I still rate 9.9/10 though as GRIM UP NORTH ARE FAB FOLK

Crispy crew canter the canal

What a beautiful place to run and today the weather was so amazing it made for a perfect spring running day! It’s grim up north? Not today! It’s a perfect kind of event up north? Yes! Stunning scenery, great route, wonderful views and amazing underfoot!
Fabulous Marshalls there to make you feel extra special and keep everyone safe, always tricky with so many different options in distances to run, but so well managed that there’s no stress and all is well!!!
Finish line snacks! Wow! Incredible! Just amazing, endless supply and choices to cover everyone!
I guess you could say it’s a great event!
There’s never a feeling of excitement from the people at the finish line, it’s like you need to bring a finish line crew if you want cheers, I’ve never known it anywhere else, usually everyone supports everyone but this wasn’t my first time and it was the same before, silence, weird? I definitely cheered for everyone who crossed the line after I’d finished!
Oh the toilets at the start and finish… absolute winner!!!!
