Runners will set off from Leeds City Centre (Granary Wharf) and head straight onto the peaceful Leeds–Liverpool Canal, following the towpath out through Kirkstall and beyond. This flat, out-and-back route is ideal for all abilities — whether you’re new to running and want to enjoy a scenic, relaxed challenge, or a seasoned athlete looking to push for a PB on fast terrain.
The course offers a calm, traffic-free feel with beautiful canal-side views throughout, making it one of the most enjoyable routes in Leeds.
Aid stations will be positioned regularly along the course, ensuring runners are well supported throughout.
Please note: race bibs will be collected on the day at registration, which will be located close to the canal alongside toilet facilities.

During the Race
Cup-less events:
We aim to be as environmentally friendly as possible. Feed stations are located roughly every 3 miles, offering drinks and snacks. Please bring your own reusable bottle or cup.
Headphones:
Most of our courses are off-road, however for safety reasons we do not permit large over-ear headphones. These reduce awareness of marshals, other users, and potential hazards. Bone conduction headphones or single-ear use is permitted.
Please note there may be unmarshalled road crossings on the route.
Transfers & Deferrals:
All transfers and deferrals can be managed via our website. Deferrals are only permitted up to 7 days before the event.
Support on Course:
If you are struggling, injured, or wish to retire, please inform the nearest marshal immediately.
We no longer send out a separate race brief as all key information is included above. However, we strongly recommend checking our FAQ section and joining the “Grim Up North Chat” Facebook group for updates and runner support.
