Friendly, welcoming, challenging, beautiful

Absolutely amazing course, Stunning scenery & loved that the half wasn’t 2 loops as the steps nearly killed me!! If
I had to say something I think a few extra signs would be helpful, one to the Marshal (twin 1) at the lighthouse, one or two more in Danes dyke on the return journey to help when people are tired & hot.
Big thanks to all marshalling today, by eck it wo waaarm, watermelon at the end was perfect.

Challenging but lovely scenery

Another Grim up North event that I have participated in, and once again, really enjoyed. Probably the most challenging half-marathon I have completed!! The steps were a killer, and the heat did not help. Got a little lost near the end, but remembered to keep the sea on your left. The scenery from the cliff tops was excellent, and the food at the end (like most Grim up North events) was great. I would not suggest this to newbies to trail runners, but it was a great day. Thank you.

Sea to the left...or right

A really pretty course and the support and smiling faces from walkers and fellow runners amazing.
As feedback I would say better signage to the marshall at the lighthouse as I couldn't see where to go until other runners helped and I'm fairly certain I followed the arrows through the woods at the end but apparently got lost and ran an extra 2km on my half marathon.
Maybe for the return arrows add distance markers or just a different colour so you know out is yellow back is green.
But would do again.

A beautiful route with a bit of everything.

A lovely run, fantastic scenery - Danes Dyke is beautiful and the run back on the cliff top provided an amazing view. Course i felt was well marked on the 10k had no issues. Seemed well organised and was a really friendly atmosphere. Overall an absolute pleasure.

Very enjoyable and scenic yet mildly technical course, would recommend

A good course with a variety of terrain and elevations maybe not the most suitable for someone new to trail running as some parts did get a little technical in the woodlands with tree roots and loose substrate, but otherwise a very enjoyable and well thought out course.

Fab scenery but challenging course

As lots of others have said more signs needed especially through Danes Dyke (wooded bit) and ideally some more marshalls. I got lost although for me that's quite likely regardless as no sense of direction! Marshall's that were out on course very friendly especially at the turn of half marathon and those at start/finish too. Perhaps also have some mile markers to help if you have gone wrong. Great to have lunch included for half at the end from the pub.

Challenging but enjoyable

This was my first run at Sewerby and really enjoyed it. The course was challenging and tricky, especially the steps, but loved running through the woods and then a homeward journey looking out to sea. Organisers were friendly and helpful. I agree that could more signage would have been helpful but I managed to run alone throughout and found my way round ok but understand that you had issues at this venue before for them being moved. Will definitely be back for 2026!

Brutal, but good.

I did the Half Marathon. It could have done with a few more way signs. I had to ask members of the public which way the runners went. All in all, i really enjoyed it.BB

Superb scenery made it a really enjoyable run

I'm sure it would have been different with a howling wind coming off the north sea, but on a calm day with glorious sunshine it was excellent. Well organised, with plenty of parking and a nice meal at the end. I get what others are saying re signage, but it was fine for me - I always had someone to follow.
Minor point - and it might be just me - but does anyone else feel the official times are from a random number generator rather than an actual clock? Mine was showing 5 mins longer than Garmin/phone.

Hot and challenging race

My first event and was not intimidating, very friendly with no egos like other races. Route was good, steps a killer but even with the heat the majority was shaded in the woods. Slightly better placement of some markers at junctions other than that great event. A welcome ice pop at the end!

Excellent way to spend a hot summer Sunday morning!

There were a few places where signage would have been helpful, at the top of the steps after the 1st water station and near the lighthouse. Otherwise a fantastic event.

Challenging but fun route with amazing scenery

I was put off the 10k this year due to it being 2 laps so opted for the half instead and it didn’t disappoint with amazing views, but it was pretty tough especially in the hot weather. I downloaded the route as advised which did help in areas where signposts weren’t that clear but still struggled at certain points. Not one to chase a pb just take it steady and enjoy the scenery. Will be back!

Very well organised and volunteers friendly ready to offer assistance.

This was my first Grim and not my last. I have been running for over forty years from 10k up to Marathon. Without doubt this was the hardest, most brutal and challenging run I’ve ever done. The course was definitely made harder by those demanding steps and the heat added to the torture. I’ll be recommending this to those in my club who like trails, hills and something to test their endurance.

easily get lost

There weren’t enough signs, too many forks in the road and there was yellow tape down every fork in the path so it was very confusing and I got lost - I usually run at Sewerby too!!

Fun 5k just glad I didn't enter the 10k and have to do it twice

I understand a few signs were lost overnight and feel that was a shame as it got a bit confusing at some points , I was lucky enough to be able to follow someone, but we will be back for other events

Incredible scenery!

My first ever run and absolutely loved it! Everyone was so friendly and helpful, could possibly be a little more signage but I understand you’ve had issues at this venue before for them being moved. A tricky 10K with quite a few steps but if you paced yourself right it was very enjoyable!
Will definitely be back for 2026!
